TRANS ANATOLIAN NATURAL GAS PIPELINE PROJECT (TANAP)

Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline –TANAP Project is one of the most important projects of energy which Turkey and Azerbaijan carry out together. TANAP Project which has a great importance for both countries protecting their relations of friendship coming the history in today’s conditions by improving them with the mission of “One Nation, Two States” is a great project which shall have an influence in the world energy markets.

In the field of energy, strategic cooperation of these two sister countries signing huge investments before the project which aims to meet the need for natural gas of Turkey and Europe and to provide with gas diversity in the region gained speed with Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Petroleum Pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum NaturaL Gas Pipeline Projects and it became more extensive with the purchase of PETKİM by SOCAR in 2008.
 
TANAP whose memorandum of understanding was signed on 26th December 2011 and which inter-governmental signatures were put on 26th June 2012 shall make a great contribution to the supply of natural gas of Turkey and Europe with gas supply from Azerbaijan Şah Deniz 2 field and additional resources.



Points of exit of 56 inch-line whose point of entry is the border of Azerbaijan-Turkey, the entry of Türkgözü shall be Greece and Bulgaria, and its internal points of exit in Turkey shall be the regions of Eskişehir and Thrace. The first one of 4 steps proposed for TANAP shall be performed with the first gas flow in 2018. The capacity which shall be 16 billion cubic meter annually in 2020 is aimed to be increased to the level of 23 annually in 2023, and to the level of 31 billion annually in 2026

When TANAP which has a great strategic importance for both countries supports the supply security with its capacity of defined natural gas and proper price for Turkey and Europe, it shall bring with great gains such as the transfer of natural gas resources of Azerbaijan to new markets.
